Last week Te Papa hosted 90 students from Wellington-area schools for a special speed date. Of the literary kind.
The event starred contributors to the recent Te Papa Press publication The Curioseum: Collected Stories of the Odd and Marvellous, including Dave Armstrong, James Brown, Sarah Laing and Jo Randerson, as well as children’s author Philippa Werry, and was held in association with the Writers in Schools programme run by the New Zealand Book Council.
The students were divided into groups and spent time with each author on a short writing or drawing activity. Hence the term ‘speed date’.
It was a morning of intense creativity.

It’s not every day that students get to learn from such amazing writers and illustrators in such a special space. Te Papa were fantastic and so were the schools that took part. Big thumbs up all round.
