Our string puppet shows, performed in November by professional puppeteer Anna Bailey, were such a success that we have decided to make Early Years events a priority!

On the 17th of January, and the 4th of February, many young visitors and their caregivers “trotted on down passed the shops and the park to the far end of town” for a special storytelling event at Te Papa.
We had some lovely participation from our audience as they took on roles of dogs and cats from the stories, and even had a visit from Scarface Claw!
A selection of the dress costumes from Paul Jenden’s Maclary Theatre production (now belonging to Te Papa’s collection) were out on display during these sessions as well – which was a real treat.
We were very lucky to have received a few more pieces of costuming for our Education handling collection in December, and the tamariki (children) really enjoyed having the opportunity to try these on!
Thank you to our wonderful storyteller, Ralph Johnson, and to all the families and ECE groups that came along.

We look forward to having more events for young learners soon. Keep an eye on tepapa.govt.nz/events and eventfinder.co.nz/
