Lower right corner during humidification and flattening treatment. Using a special barrier fabric, water vapor is carefully transferred to the tapa cloth fibers, causing them to become temporarily more flexible and elastic, without affecting the brown design media. The creases are relaxed and the tapa is left to dry under light weights. This phase of treatment allows edges of tears to be aligned, and upon completion the design is also more legible.
