This week we are changing over a number of garments in The WOW Factor, an exhibition celebrating the wonderful, creative and inventive World of WearableArt™. The exhibition itself has been extended to 2 November 2014 so that this year’s show attendees can also enjoy seeing a number of garments up close and personal. For those of you who have already seen the exhibition, there are nine new garments to be amazed by.
This slide show features our Textile Conservator Anne Peranteau, who is responsible for dressing the mannequins, Collection Manager Grace Hutton, Exhibition Preparator Paul Alexander, installing a selection of the new garments. All of the photographs are by Norm Heke, Te Papa.
The dressing and installation process always gives us a great insight not only into the technical virtuosity of the makers, but also the stamina of the models who not only wear but also dance in, these complex, and sometimes heavy garments.
Posted in conjunction with The WOW Factor: 25 Years in the Making, which is on display at Te Papa until 2 November 2014. For more on the World of WearableArt™ visit WOW® online. Tickets to the 2014 show are now on sale.
