Thanks for letting us know Terry. Sad to hear the house is no longer there. Are they your ancestrors in the photograph?

“Arthur Hay Maude” by Gary Benner

both have good information about the Maude family and Elvington
🙂
Hi there, we have been trying to see what we can find on the Oamaru houses. So far regarding 1) Elvingston ” Stone 1912 lists Elvingston as a suburb of Oamaru (Weston turnoff) the residence of Mr and Mrs Arthur Hay Maude. Sontes 1934 notes the name change to Maudes Rd.” We will keep searching … From the North Otago Museum archive
i wish someone knew something about those Oamaru houses….
Jacqui – could you give us a general area for no. 15 on street view?
Thanks Sarah for Mitchell’s cottage 🙂
what a miserable end for Percy Kingswell (see Victoria’s link above) in the Golf House
what an awesome eye you have Victoria – no 12 the old fence still in the street view! great work on no. 8 – Dixon Park in Greymouth – its hard to imagine the need for an Italian Consulate in Greymouth. Sad the building has been replaced now.
no. 16 is Mitchell’s Cottage http://www.centralotagonz.com/mitchells-cottage
# 3 in Dunedin?? Shame I can’t zoom in too clearly on the harbour…. now I feel like going for a walk to see if I can find it! 😉
Golf House (#10) is 9 Fern Avenue, Epsom.
My grandfather built similar miniatures of that stone house in no. 16. He lived in Roxborough so it definitely could be Fruitlands in Alexandra.
10. By 1909 the Kingswell family was established in Auckland. On 2 October 1909 Percy, who was at the time the President of the Auckland Golf Club, purchased the ‘Golf House’ from the Auckland Golf Club when it was decided to relocate the Club’s course from the south slopes of the One Tree Domain to Middlemore. On purchasing the house he “added bay windows on both floors and the curious octagonal turret tower.” He was reported in the Otago Witness 27 October 1909, as one of the new vice-presidents of the Maungakiekie Golf Club (being the name of the club taking over the One Tree Hill links).
When the house was offered for sale in 1995 it was described, at length, in the newspaper as:
“It might be taking the literal meaning of landmark to a fine point when describing the property for sale at 9 Fern Ave, Epsom. The spacious 611 sq m (6600 sq ft) English-style mansion is tucked away in a park like domain well away from public gaze. From a distance, however, it is easy to pick up the imposing turret that rises high above the triple-gabled roof line. From it can be enjoyed extensive views across the city to the west.”

11. Sunnyside Station Homestead located at Waiau. Mr Cuthbert mentioned here http://rsnz.natlib.govt.nz/volume/rsnz_51/rsnz_51_00_002700.html
12. checked on Google Street view. House is no longer there but you can see a small section of the original stone fence if you go to 105 Pendaves Street using this link and rotate the view 180 degrees

8. Children’s park is definitely Dixon’s Park. Compare 1948 image linked to my comment above and the distinctive bridge in the right hand corner. Bridge is still there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/envirovision/106147233/
House now replaced with Trinity Church and Trinity Centre 201 Tainui Road.
See final comment in this blog post – mentions the Perotti family home being replaced with church sometime after 1952.

The Dargaville house is on the main road out to Te Kopuru. I’m not sure if it’s still there, it was abandoned for years and I have a vague feeling it was burnt down.
8. Found an image dated 1910s naming this house the “Italian Consulate”. http://find.natlib.govt.nz/primo_library/libweb/action/dlDisplay.do?vid=TF&docId=nlnz_tapuhi1055768
And another image of similar scene dated 1948 with house still standing

May have been the family home of the Perotti family. Father and son both acted as the consulate.
no.8 – could be Dixon Park in Greymouth but the house isn’t there anymore
no. 12 could be what is now here:

16 looks like Mitchell’s cottage at Fruitlands just south of Alexandra
